Challenges Specific to the Laurentians

  • Turnkey service in the Laurentians (planning, excavation, installation).
  • Strict compliance with provincial and municipal standards.
  • 10-year warranty on complete installations.
  • Use of durable, certified materials.

Who is Soluo?

Soluo is a multidisciplinary team of 35 septic system experts, operating across all regions of Québec. Since 1995, the team has inspected, designed, and installed more than 500 septic systems every year.

Installation Steps

Installing a septic system always begins with analyzing the soil report, prepared following the percolation test and grain-size analysis. This study determines which type of system is best suited to the terrain, whether conventional, secondary, tertiary, or a sand filter system.

In the Laurentians, soil conditions vary greatly: rocky terrain in Morin-Heights and Sainte-Adèle, sandy soil around Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, and more clay-based soil toward Mirabel or Saint-Jérôme.

This step is crucial for selecting a high-performance, durable solution that complies with Regulation Q-2, r.22.

Once the system is selected, the installation plans and the technical report are prepared for the municipal permit application.

Each municipality — such as Saint-Sauveur, Sainte-Anne-des-Lacs, Val-David, Saint-Hippolyte, or Saint-Colomban — has its own requirements, but all require an approved soil analysis report before work can begin.

This step ensures environmental compliance and prevents delays related to municipal inspections.

Once the permit is granted, excavation work begins. The Soluo expert team installs the septic tank, piping, and all components of the selected system.

In mountainous areas such as Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard or Piedmont, excavation often requires an adapted approach, while in more accessible zones like Mirabel or Saint-Jérôme, the work progresses more quickly.

Each installation is carried out according to approved plans, respecting natural slopes and protecting sensitive environments.

The leaching field is then installed to allow treated wastewater to filter into the soil.

Its size and design depend directly on soil type and topography.

A sandy lot in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts will typically allow for a conventional installation, while a rocky site in Morin-Heights or a lakefront property in Val-Morin may require a more advanced system such as Bionest, Hydro-Kinetic, Ecoflo, or System O)).

This step ensures system performance and protects the local environment.

After installation, a final inspection is performed to ensure the system complies with approved plans and standards.

Once verified, an inspection report and a certificate of compliance are provided to the owner and the municipality.

This final step officially confirms the commissioning of the septic system and ensures that everything meets the environmental requirements of the Laurentians.

FAQ

The cost of a septic system in the Laurentians varies depending on site topography, soil type, and the technology selected. On average, expect to pay between $15,000 and $35,000 for a complete installation, including the septic tank, leaching field, labour, and materials.

A conventional system installed on sandy soil in Saint-Jérôme or Mirabel generally falls at the lower end of this range, while a tertiary system in mountainous, lakefront areas such as Sainte-Adèle, Saint-Sauveur, or Morin-Heights can be more expensive.

This price usually includes the soil study, system plans, labour, and compliance with Regulation Q-2, r.22.

Installing a septic system in the Laurentians typically takes between 2 and 5 business days, depending on the system selected and site conditions.

In accessible areas such as Saint-Colomban, Mirabel, or Saint-Jérôme, the work is fast. On sloped, forested, or rocky terrain such as in Sainte-Adèle, Val-David, or Saint-Hippolyte, installation may take a few extra days.

These timelines include excavation, tank installation, construction of the leaching field, and the final inspection.

A well-designed, properly installed, and regularly maintained septic system can last between 25 and 30 years.

The septic tank, when pumped every 2 to 4 years, can last for several decades. The leaching field, which is more prone to soil saturation, has an average lifespan of around 25 years. Polishing fields from advanced treatment systems can last significantly longer.

In the Laurentians, sandy soils such as in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts or Val-Morin often extend the system’s lifespan, while more compact or rocky terrain requires an adapted design to avoid premature wear.

Regular maintenance and monitoring are essential to ensure the system’s longevity and avoid costly premature replacements.
