Who is Soluo?

Soluo is a multidisciplinary team of 35 septic system experts, operating across all regions of Québec. Since 1995, the team has inspected, designed, and installed more than 500 septic systems every year.

Installation process

Everything begins with the analysis of the soil report, which includes the results of the percolation test and the particle size analysis. This study determines the type of septic system best suited to the site conditions: conventional, sand filter, secondary or tertiary.

In Montérégie, soils vary greatly from one area to another: clayey around Saint-Hyacinthe, sandy on the side of Saint-Rémi and more silty in the agricultural zones of Beloeil or Mont-Saint-Grégoire. The choice of system is therefore made to measure according to the reality of the land.

Once the system is chosen, the application for a septic installation permit is prepared and submitted to the relevant municipality by your Soluo expert (e.g., Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Chambly, Sainte-Julie, Saint-Hyacinthe, Marieville).

The file includes the soil analysis report, the plans and the technical recommendations. This step ensures that the project complies with the standards of Regulation Q-2, r.22 and the local municipal regulations before the start of the work.

Once the permits are obtained, the team carries out the excavation of the site and the Soluo expert proceeds with the installation of the septic tank and the main components of the system.

Depending on the topography and composition of the soil, the work can vary from a simple installation in sandy soil to a more technical excavation in hard or sloped terrain such as in Mont-Saint-Hilaire or Saint-Amable.

Each step is carried out carefully to ensure a compliant, durable and safe installation.

The leach field is the part of the system where the treated water infiltrates into the soil. It is installed respecting the natural slopes, the soil’s infiltration capacity and the distances required by regulation.

In areas where the soils are less permeable, such as in Saint-Hyacinthe or Ange-Gardien, systems that allow discharge into the environment may be recommended to optimize treatment.

Once the installation is completed, a final inspection is carried out to verify the compliance of the system and confirm that all work complies with the approved plans.
An inspection and compliance report is then given to the owner and the municipality.

This step marks the official commissioning of the septic system, ensuring that everything operates optimally and that the owner has the necessary documents for legal and environmental compliance.

FAQ

The cost of a septic system in Montérégie mainly varies depending on the type of system chosen, the size of the residence and the site conditions. On average, you should expect between $15,000 and $35,000 for a complete installation including the septic tank, the leach field, materials and labour.

A conventional system installed on a sandy plot in Saint‑Rémi or Venise‑en‑Québec will generally cost less than a tertiary system required in more clayey areas such as Saint‑Hyacinthe, Saint‑Jean‑sur‑Richelieu or Beloeil.

These amounts include preliminary analyses, technical plans, installation and compliance with Regulation Q‑2, r.22.

The installation of a complete septic system in Montérégie takes on average 1 to 3 business days, depending on the complexity of the project and weather conditions.

In accessible and well-levelled areas like Chambly, Saint‑Césaire or Sainte‑Julie, the work proceeds quickly. However, on more clayey or poorly drained land, such as in Saint‑Hyacinthe or Mont‑Saint‑Grégoire, the process can take several days to ensure proper drainage and a compliant installation.

Each stage — excavation, installation, leveling and inspection — is carried out carefully to ensure the durability of the system.

A well-designed and maintained septic system has an average lifespan of 20 to 30 years, depending on the soil type and the quality of maintenance.

The septic tank, when pumped out every 2 to 3 years, can last several decades. The leach field has an average longevity of around 25 years before requiring refurbishment. Systems that allow discharge into the environment have no finite useful life as long as they are properly maintained and installed.

In Montérégie, the sandy soils of Saint‑Rémi or Venise‑en‑Québec promote better system longevity, whereas the heavier and more clayey soils of Saint‑Hyacinthe or Beloeil require extra attention to prevent the field from becoming saturated.

Regular maintenance remains the best way to ensure the system’s performance and durability over the long term.
